Residents back in homes after Wanaka scrub fire

Wanaka homeowners evacuated due to a large scrub fire have been allowed back on their properties.

The Fire Service says the blaze is now out and emergency services have left the scene.

The blaze started about 4.15am on Thursday at the base of the Mount Iron residential area, burning up to 600 square metres of land and scrub.

The Fire Service says seven houses were evacuated and the cause of the blaze will be investigated.
