A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after being trapped in a piece of machinery at a Tauranga restaurant.
Police were called by ambulance staff to The Strand, on the city's waterfront, just before 1pm on Tuesday.
The 24-year-old man was trapped for over an hour and had to be cut free. He suffered serious arm injuries and is undergoing surgery.
Inspector Ben Offner says the Department of Labour is investigating the incident.
Mr Offner says the man has been taken to Tauranga Hospital but does not believe the injuries are life-threatening.
Cordons are in place along The Strand on Tuesday afternoon.
