Police in Auckland are investigating whether a man was already dead when he was hit by a car in the suburb of Mt Eden.
Officers were called to the scene on Mt Eden Road about 2.45am on Thursday and say the driver of the car told them the victim was already lying on the road.
St John Ambulance team leader Nicky Green says the man was dead when ambulance staff arrived.
The Serious Crash Unit and Avondale detectives are investigating.
