A woman from Christchurch at the World Youth Day in Sydney is to have lunch with the Pope.
Activities began on Tuesday evening with a Mass at Darling Harbour on the Sydney waterfront, which was attended by about 150,000 people.
A Papal mass will be held at Randwick Racecourse on Sunday. Up to half a million people are expected to attend.
But the director of Catholic Youth Ministry in Christchurch, Clare Dooley, will join Pope Benedict XVI and a dozen other people for lunch on Friday.
She says she's preparing for the lunch by praying regularly.
Pope Benedict, 81, arrived in Australia on Sunday and is resting at a rural retreat on the outskirts of Sydney.
