Scams seek Rena donations

Scammers are targetting people who want to help clean up the mess from the Rena.

Maritime New Zealand says several scammers are asking people to donate to an oiled wildlife fund.

It says police have been notified about bogus donation calls by phone and via internet and email. None of them are official.

Maritime NZ says there is only one official fund for the response to the Rena. It is the Care for our Coast Fund, which can be found on the website of Bay of Plenty Regional Council.
