Firefighters in Auckland battled a large factory blaze from over a concrete wall that was close to where toxic chemicals were being stored.

Fifteen appliances were sent to Textile Products which stores insulation products in the suburb of Onehunga about 11am on Monday.

The Fire Service says it could not enter the building in Miami Parade but had to fight the blaze from a neighbouring property, Chemwaste.

Assistant area commander Steve Lakin says firefighters were washed down of contaminants as a precaution.

Mr Lakin says the insulation product that caught alight is highly flammable and the building has been gutted.

No one was trapped inside, but the ambulance service says five people were treated for minor injuries.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
