More charges have been laid against a man who was shot and wounded by police in the town of Otane in central Hawke's Bay last year.

The man, 48, who was transferred to hospital in Christchurch for specialist medical care, will attend a special hearing of Christchurch District Court at Nga Hau e Wha Marae.

There are nine new charges. They include threatening to kill, presenting an object like a firearm, burglary, unlawfully taking a motor vehicle, and driving in a dangerous manner.

The status of existing charges is expected to be discussed at the court hearing.

Police say the charges result from inquiries into an incident in which an officer was threatened while stopping a vehicle in which the man was a passenger.
