The man accused of the murder of Auckland woman Marie Jamieson in 2001 can now be named.
Joseph Reekers, a 51-year-old sickness beneficiary, was arrested in Kaitaia three weeks ago and charged with rape and murder.
On Thursday, he abandoned an appeal in the High Court against the lifting of name suppression.
Ms Jamieson was 23 when she was murdered. Her body was discovered behind a factory nine days after she was last seen.
Police say even though Joseph Reekers was arrested in Kaitaia, he had been living in Auckland.
He is due to reappear in court in August.
