Parliament's Assistant Speaker and Labour MP Ross Robertson has been elected president of the Parliamentarians for Global Action.
The organisation is based in New York and represents 131 parliaments worldwide.
Mr Robertson says he lobbied for six months before being elected president.
He says the organisation runs a number of programmes aimed at tackling regional conflicts, HIV Aids, arms trafficking and corruption.
