Search teams have almost completed the search for a man last seen swimming at Titahi Bay beach near Wellington on Saturday.

Searchers on Tuesday combed the shoreline and nearby Mana Island looking for 24-year-old Albert Alapati.

The officer in charge of the operation, Constable Martyn Bayly, says they have conducted thorough land, aerial and marine searches, but without success.

A blessing by a local Maori elder, or kaumatua, was held at the beach on Tuesday morning attended by Mr Alapati's family, members of the Titahi Bay Surf Lifesaving New Zealand Club and police.

Meanwhile, police have continued the search for Duane Kaka who disappeared on Saturday while swimming in the Whanganui River.

The search for the 34-year-old will continue on Wednesday.
