Audit 'duplicates council committee review'

12:54 pm on 21 January 2012

A Christchurch city councillor says an $80,000 review of how the council communicates with others is a waste of money.

The council on Friday announced an independent audit of its communications team after a series of negative stories focusing on its chief executive and the performance of the council.

Councillor Yani Johanson, said the communications committee which he chairs was already undertaking a review but was never consulted about the decision and the issue was never discussed with councillors.

Mr Johanson says it is unacceptable for councillors to find out about such reviews through the media.

Mayor Bob Parker and chief executive Tony Marryatt said the audit was planned for the middle of 2010 but was disrupted by the earthquakes.
