Tracking devices wanted for people with dementia

Search and Rescue in the Far North needs funds to buy tracking devices for people with dementia.

It says search and rescue callouts for wandering people with dementia rose by 38% in New Zealand last year and the trend is set to continue.

Sergeant Cliff Metcalfe says a person wearing a tracker pendant can be found in a matter of minutes and the devices could save lives.

The transmitters costs about $500 each.
