Schools 'plagued' by cyber bullying

Bullying using the internet and mobile phones is the most common form of harassment among young people, a conference for school trustees has been told.

Internet safety group Netsafe told the School Trustees Association that on-line and text bullying continues to plague schools.

Netsafe says it receives about 150 calls a month, and bullying through the use of technology is the main issue the organisation deals with.

It says school guidance counsellors have said that 60% to 70% of problems that come to them involve so-called cyber bullying.

The group told the trustees it is vital that they and parents understand all the technology being used in schools and by young people.
