Jellyfish warning issued in Auckland

11:16 pm on 24 January 2012

Auckland Regional Public Health Service is warning swimmers about swarms of tiny jellyfish at beaches in the Hauraki Gulf.

The jellyfish, which are transparent and too small to be seen, get caught inside swimwear. They can cause a red, raised, itchy or painful rash.

The public health service says they have been reported around Long Bay, Milford and Takapuna beaches, but are likely to be in other areas of the Gulf as well.
