A woman is dead and a child was badly injured after the driver of a car appeared to drive directly into the path of a truck near Cambridge.
The woman is believed to be in her 40s and the child, a girl, who is in Waikato hospital with serious to critical injuries, is thought to be 10.
Police say the car, which was driven by the woman, collided with an empty tar-tanker at the intersection of Cambridge and Kaipaki Roads at Leamington ,just before 8.30am on Tuesday.
They say it appears the car drove onto Cambridge Road directly into the path of the tanker, which had the right of way.
