Fourth man in Megaupload case remanded in custody

7:19 pm on 27 January 2012

A German man charged in connection with the Megaupload case continues to be remanded in custody after his bail hearing was pushed out until next week.

Mathias Ortmann, who is 40, is charged with internet piracy offences, along with the founder of the Megaupload website, Kim Dotcom, and two other men.

Those men, Bram van der Kolk and Finn Batato, were granted bail in the North Shore District Court on Thursday.

Mr Ortmann was denied bail then because the judge wanted to be sure he is not a flight risk.

He said there were gaps in the financial information provided to the court and he wanted Mr Ortmann's lawyer to account for those.

On Friday, Mr Ortmann's lawyer told the court that he needed more time to read information provided by the Crown.

The bail hearing will continue next Friday.
