The Government is concerned about a New Zealand man on a yacht heading for Antarctica.
The yacht is skippered by Jarle Andhoey of Norway who is heading to McMurdo Sound where his support yacht, Berserk, sank a year ago during an attempt to reach the South Pole.
He has told the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation that an Auckland man was working on the boat when he sailed abruptly from Auckland to avoid deportation.
Foreign Affairs Minister Murray McCully says contact has been made with the Norwegian government.
He says he will be briefed in full on Tuesday morning, on whether any action can be taken.
