Ramonah Patience Toomalatai was born at Middlemore hospital just after 4.30am.
Her parents are Sulia and Tutasi Toomalatai, who live in Panmure.
The milestone is based on the average population growth over the past two years.
Mayor Len Brown says Ramona is the perfect poster girl for such an honor because she is so cute.
Mrs Toomalatai says she's thrilled her baby was picked to celebrate the landmark.
