Sanitarium says shops may run out of marmite for a short period while its plant is closed for a few months.
Part of the building in Christchurch where marmite is produced is to be pulled down on Thursday because of earthquake damage.
Sanitarium New Zealand hopes production will restart in April, if the plant has been successfully relocated to a safe area by then.
General manager Pierre van Heerden says distribution centres and supermarkets should have enough stock to cover any period that marmite production is stopped, though he can't guarantee that.
