North Korea to get more New Zealand food aid

4:31 pm on 29 July 2008

New Zealand will give $500,000 to help North Korea deal with food shortages.

Foreign Affairs Minister Winston Peters says North Korea is facing the most severe food shortages since a famine in the 1990s.

Mr Peters says food prices have tripled in the past year after a significant proportion of the country's crops were destroyed in floods in August.

The aid will go to the World Food Programme, and follows $500,000 given via the International Red Cross after the floods.
