Highway conditions

Several highways are affected by a storm crossing the upper North Island.

There is flooding on State Highway 2, including the closure of the Karangahake Gorge.

Police say the road at Dome Valley, between Wellsford and Warkworth, is blocked by a landslide. It is expected to remain closed for several hours.

Civil Defence in the Coromandel advises motorists to be wary of slips and debris on coastal roads.

Up to 160mm of rain is expected in Coromandel, Bay of Plenty and Gisborne.

SH16 near Kaipara is closed.

SH17 near Albany is now open.

SH 2 between Paeroa and Waihi, known as the Karangahake gorge is covered in water.

Part of SH25, just south of Whitianga, is under water.

There are also problems in the Ruapehu and Horowhenua districts, as well as slips in the Manuwatu Gorge and road closures in Levin.
