Comedian Jon Gadsby has been sentenced to 120 hours of community service for his third drink-driving conviction in Christchurch.
Gadsby, 58, was also disqualified from driving for at least 12 months and had his car confiscated.
He was found to be 2.5 times over the legal alcohol limit when pulled over late on a Friday night in Merivale in June last year.
Gadsby told the police he had drunk three glasses of wine and a glass of beer.
Lawyer Jonathan Eaton said the high reading could be explained by the inability of his client's liver to process alcohol properly.
His client, he said, had been receiving treatment for his alcoholism.
Outside court, Gadsby's longtime friend David McPhail said the issue was a personal matter and there were more important things the media should be focusing on in Christchurch at the moment.
