Dozens of household on the East Coast and in northern Hawke's Bay have lost power as a result of the storm on Wednesday.
More than 100mm of rain has fallen in the past 24 hours between Te Puia Springs and Hicks Bay.
Eastland Network general manager Brent Stewart says the outages are
mostly around Ruatoria.
High winds have also caused a disruption to flights in and out of both Gisborne and Hawke's Bay airports.
