A funeral was held on Monday for a boy killed while playing on a stack of freshly piled logs in Motueka.
Glen Eric Takaro Temiha-Barlow, aged 5, died on Thursday when a log became dislodged and rolled on top of him at Motueka High School.
A family spokesperson, Sean Delany, says some of the family and members of their marae have critised the way the logs were piled as unsafe, with large logs piled on top of smaller ones.
Mr Delany says Glen Temiha-Barlow was well loved in the community and his family is struggling to come to terms with the loss.
The Department of Labour is investigating the death.
