A man and a woman are dead after a shooting incident in Napier.
Police were called to Harold Holt Avenue in the suburb of Onekawa about 12.30am on Saturday, after reports of gunshots.
Senior Sergeant Dean Goodall says officers found a woman lying dead on the footpath, and an injured man leaning against a fence nearby.
He says both had suffered gunshot wounds and the man later died from his injuries in hospital.
Senior Sergeant Goodall says a homicide inquiry is underway.
He says officers are still confirming the identities of the two people, but early inquiries indicate they are known to each other.
Police are not seeking anyone else in relation to the inquiry.
