Navy frigate heads home

8:49 am on 3 August 2008

Navy frigate Te Mana has finished its mission in the Middle East and is heading back to New Zealand.

Over the past three months the vessel has supported maritime and security operations for the Coalition Task Force in the central and southern Arabian Gulf.

The ship's captain, Commander Blair Gerritsen, says coalition forces are staggered that such a small Navy could make such a significant contribution.

The frigate and her 173-strong company of sailors, are due back in New Zealand on 7 September.
