Exide to honour collective agreement

8:03 am on 16 February 2012

Exide Technologies at Petone says it will honour its collective agreement and all employees will be paid their severance pay in full.

Forty people will lose their jobs when the battery processing plant shuts on 31 March.

Exide is closing as a result of a Court of Appeal decision to allow the unlimited export of used lead-acid batteries.

The Engineering, Printing & Manufacturing Union says it is meeting Work & Income and Inland Revenue on-site next week to ensure all its members are looked after.
