NZ Affordable Arts Show takings slightly up on last year

Organisers of the New Zealand Affordable Arts Show in Wellington say takings from this year's exhibition have been exceptional despite an economic down-turn.

The show, which has a cash and carry type policy, is in its fifth year and features pieces from artists nationwide.

The show's chairperson Gerry Morris says he was surprised that this year's exhibition was even more successful than the last with $824,000 worth of art was sold, about $6000 more than last year.

Mr Morris says the average price was about $520 with a total of 1,600 pieces selling.

He says people bought more art, but possibly purchased the less expensive pieces.
