Passion not enough education minister told

Maori leaders have told the Minister of Education her passion might not be enough to lift their children's performance at school.

Hekia Parata told iwi representatives Thursday she plans to change the education system so it responds better to those it is currently failing.

She urged iwi groups to help by working with schools, families and children in their area.

Those at the meeting welcomed the minister's passion but said it might not be enough.

They say successive governments have made little difference and they expressed frustration about working with officials and schools.
