A fiery crash on State Highway 75 south of Christchurch has killed one person and put three others in hospital.
The crash occured near Macartneys Road, between Taitapu and Motukarara, and forced the closure of State Highway 75 overnight.
The Fire Service says the car was fully ablaze when crews arrived there.
St John Ambulance says two people were taken to Christchurch hospital with serious injuries and burns and a third with moderate injuries, including burns.
Another person died at the scene.
Fulton Hogan say the road re-opened at 4am on Friday.
