Top road safety officer to retire

12:29 pm on 17 February 2012

The national manager of road policing is to retire.

Superintendent Paula Rose says she remains passionate about road safety, but the time is right to leave.

Police Commissioner Peter Marshall says she has been highly effective, overseeing last year the lowest road toll since 1952.

Ms Rose says road policing has been a real challenge at times, but she has found that when everyone works together, they can make a difference in lowering the road toll.

She joined the police in 1984 and commenced in the position in January 2008.
