Festival intended to get more help for social needs

10:29 am on 18 February 2012

The Pacific communities of Horowhenua are celebrating their cultures on Saturday in an event with a serious objective.

An influx of young families from the cities looking for farm work has increased the Pacific population around Levin in the past decade.

Pasifika Celebration Day aims to get more help for their growing social needs and to inform Pacific families about social services.

Since last year's inaugural event, organiser Rob Fifita-Tovo says they have had more attention from Government agencies and more Pacific families are using social services.

The festival is at the Levin Adventure Park from 11am with a parade down Oxford Street beforehand.
