Police are treating a fire that destroyed a service station south of Tokoroa early on Tuesday morning as suspicious.
Emergency services were notified of the blaze at Jas Kelly Motors on the corner of State Highway 30 and Waipapa Road in Mangakino just after 3am.
Police say the workshop and garage were extensively damaged and an investigation is underway .
The Fire Service says the fire was confined to the building and did not reach any fuel tanks.
It is the second time in seven months a service station in the area has burned down. In July last year the Whakamaru Gasoline Alley service station was destroyed by a deliberately lit blaze.
Police say it is too early in their inquiry to indicate if there is any link between the two fires.
They want to hear from anyone who heard or saw suspicious activity near the Jas Kelly Motors service station overnight, or from people who may have information about how the fire started and who might be responsible for it.
Detective Senior Sergeant Pearce can be contacted at Taupo Police on 07 377 0508, or information can be provided anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
