A man who set fire to his car in central Wellington on election day last year has pleaded guilty to a charge of arson.

Christopher Palenski, 40, also pleaded guilty to two charges of threatening to kill, when he appeared in Wellington District Court.

Those charges related to calls he made to police last year, telling them he planted four explosive devices in the Stock Exchange and Reserve Bank.

Palenski was remanded in custody for sentencing in April.
