Residents near the intersection of Mt Albert Road and Alberton Avenue in Auckland have been evacuated due to a gas leak.
The Fire Service says a natural gas main has been ruptured and those close by have been cleared to the nearest safe area.
Mt Albert Road between New North Road and Owairaka Avenue is closed.
Police are advising motorists to avoid the area. It's not known how long the closures will be in place.
The Fire Service says it's waiting for the gas company to arrive and isolate the gas flow, at which time it will be safe to return to the area.
