A detective giving evidence at the trial into alleged military-style camps in Te Urewera National Park says those filmed conducting training exercises had extremely poor weapons skills.
Tame Iti, Te Rangikaiwhiria Kemara, Urs Signer and Emily Bailey are on trial at the High Court in Auckland accused of participation in an organised criminal group and unlawful possession of a firearm.
Detective Sergeant Jason Lunjevich, a specialist in weapons use, told the jury on Friday that footage of the camps shows those involved had a very relaxed approach to holding the guns and had very poor aim.
Under cross-examination, Mr Lunjevich said his identification of Tame Iti from security footage of the camp relied on Mr Iti's body shape and the colour of the pants that he is often seen and photographed wearing.
Despite Mr Iti's distinctive full facial tattoos, Mr Lunjevich said he could not make out any tattoos.
