Council fees for building a new house in Tauranga are to be lowered in a bid to pull the building industry there out of the doldrums.
Tauranga City Council says in some cases the fees for building a new home had risen to $35,000.
In some suburbs like Welcome Bay, development, subdivision and building fees will fall by about $8000.
Mayor Stuart Crosby says the number of people wanting to build new homes has slowed dramatically in the past three years while council fees have peaked.
The new fees will take effect from July.
