MetService says it has been falling in Christchurch since about 5am on Saturday.
Police say it's not heavy and is not causing any problems.
Snow has closed State Highway 87 in Central Otago between Outram and Middlemarch.
In the North Island, heavy snow has closed SH2 over the Rimutaka Ranges between Wellington and Wairarapa.
