Maori and Pacific communities are asking the Auckland Council for a 25-year plan to stop family and sexual violence.
Hundreds of social workers from groups across the region attended a hui with the council and the Ministry of Social Development, on the council's role in addressing family and sexual violence.
A co-ordinator from the Tu Wahine Trust Ngaroimata Reid says funding family violence prevention programmes over one to two years does not work.
She says to make a difference, resourcing needs to be long term, so that a programme can span a generation.
The hui was called in support of submissions on the council's 10-year plan, which is due to be released in June this year.
