Authorities in American Samoa have raised concerns about the appearance of synthetic marijuana in the territory.

Samoa News quotes a police captain, Peau Leuma, as confirming the latest case involved a high school, where a student was caught selling the drug, which is also known as spice.

A police officer says the drug's effects include paranoia and giddiness.

Spice is a mixture of herbs and spices that are typically sprayed with a synthetic compound chemically similar to THC.
