The Fiji government has dissolved a public accounts watchdog, the Public Accounts Committee, saying it is a prelude to the resumption of parliament.
The Attorney-General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, says a new committee chaired by the opposition will be formed once parliament resumes.
He says all of the reports compiled by the auditor general will then be considered by the committee and tabled in parliament.
Mr Sayed-Khaiyum says the new committee will also be able to review the work of the old committee.
But an opposition grouping in Fiji, the United Front for a Democratic Fiji, says the move is part of a cover up by the regime.
The group has been calling for the regime to reveal the salaries of top regime officials.
It questions why the government wants to close down the committee six months before elections and it says committee members were shocked at their sudden termination.
The Fiji regime has come under criticism for refusing to make public auditor general's reports for the last five years.
