Sport: Northern Pride wary of dangerous PNG Hunters

9:29 am on 22 March 2014

The Northern Pride rugby league coach Jason Demetriou says the PNG Hunters are dangerous all across the park, calling today's top of the table clash their biggest test yet.

Both sides are unbeaten after three rounds of the Queensland Cup competition.

The teams met in pre-season with the Hunters beating last year's minor premiers 26-18 in Cairns.

Jason Demetriou says they were guilty of letting a lead slip late in that match and says they will need to pay close attention to the entire Hunters squad.

"No more so that Adex Wera, the fullback, who's a very very good player. Captain [Israel] Eliab as well, he's a strong player who's dangerous in good ball but they've got players all over the park. They're a very strong side and they play second phase really well so it's something that we have to control. We have to control their early tackles and hope that they don't get a roll on because when they do they're a very dangerous footy side."

The match, which is the Hunters' third straight in Kokopo, kicks off at 2.30pm local time.
