Saipan business group still opposed to casino

The largest business group in the Northern Marianas conducted a poll among its members recently and the results clearly show a majority of Saipan Chamber of Commerce members still oppose the legalisation of casino operations on Saipan.

Chamber president Alex Sablan, in a letter to Governor Eloy Inos, says the poll clearly stipulates Chamber members continued position that they reject casino gaming on Saipan, as has been proposed in current and past legislation.

The Chamber asked the governor, who signed the controversial bill into law Friday, to veto the casino measure.

Mr Sablan says the Saipan casino bill as worded makes it difficult to ascertain how each respective item will impact current gaming in the CNMI and tax benefits derived, by offering a CNMI exclusive gaming license under the CNMI lottery law.
