6:39 pm on 26 March 2014

An amendment bill to the five-day old Saipan casino law has been filed in the Northern Marianas.

The Saipan Tribune reports the proposed changes will include cuts in tax benefits for the exclusive casino licensee.

It says the 12 proposed changes also try to address funding problems including retirement income, medical and utility services.

There has been controversy over the lack of transparency with the original casino law.

The amendment bill is expected to be ready for the governor to sign by the end of this week.
