12:17 pm on 31 March 2014

A Fijian lawyer, Tupou Draunidalo, is the new president of the National Federation Party while academic Professor Biman Chand Prasad is the new party leader.

Professor Prasad resigned as the Dean of the faculty of Business and Economics at the University of the South Pacific last week.

During the party's annual general meeting on Saturday, Ms Draunidalo was elected unanimously as the new President, and she replaces Raman Pratap Singh, who has been the President for NFP for the past nine years.

Fiji Village reports Mr Singh says he will still be a member and is considering being a candidate in the upcoming elections.

Around 600 people attended the party's AGM and convention at Nadi Sangam School.
