Vanuatu government pledges huge commitment towards rural education

The government of Vanuatu has pledged a huge commitment towards improving education in its remote rural areas, which remains a challenge.

The education minister, Bob Loughman, also says the government has allotted the biggest budget he has ever seen towards tertiary education.

Mr Loughman was one of seven Pacific delegates invited to observe the International Teaching summit in New Zealand last weekend.

"We in Vanuatu have some limitations in terms of our geographical location. Some of our schools are located in very remote areas. Communication is not too good. Maybe we can say that it is not an educational matter to deal with, but it is the overall responsibility of the government of the republic of Vanuatu."
