A survey in Tonga has revealed several villages on Tonga's main island Tongatapu have unsafe water supplies.

The Tonga Development Trust surveyed five villages and found the water was not fit for drinking.

The European Union funded programme also involved training on the importance of consuming clean water.

An official in the town of Tatakamotonga, Tevita Fakatou, says it is about time the issue was addressed to ensure the villagers' health.
