New Zealand is to give Solomon Islands 258,000 US dollars in immediate disaster relief following the severe flooding in and around Honiara.

The Foreign Minister Murry McCully says the death toll is likely to rise and there appears to be significant damage to homes and infrastructure.

He says the bulk of the money from New Zealand is earmarkeed for agencies working on the ground in the Solomons to allow them to help provide emergency relief supplies and shelter to victims of the flooding.
