Sport: New Fiji cricket coach ready for new challenge

The new Fiji cricket coach Shane Jurgensen is looking forward to a fresh start after being worn down during his two and a half year stint in charge of Bangladesh.

The 38 year old quit his previous role last month and has accepted a three year deal to coach the Fiji's men's, women's and age-grade teams.

Going from coaching a test-playing nation to one that isn't even in the World Cricket Leagues might be a surprise to many but Jurgensen says he's looking forward to getting back to basics.

"I dedicated so much to the role in Bangladesh and had to do so many things that were outside what I actually had to do as a coach and I think, after a while, it just wore me down and I just felt I needed to move on and I have and I'm really excited about this. I think this role brings be back to why I started coaching in the first place and coming back to the love of coaching and wanting to help people and develop."

Jurgensen moves to Fiji next month and his first official coaching assignment will be the EAP men's regional qualifiers in November.
