A minister in the new-look Vanuatu council of ministers says he's confident that the government can advance much-needed political reform.
Vanuatu's parliamentarians yesterday voted to remove the Green Confederation leader Moana Carcasses as Prime Minister, replacing him with Joe Natuman of the Vanua'aku Pati.
40 of the parliament's 52 MPs voted for Mr Natuman.
The Lands Minister Ralph Regenvanu says there appears to be a strong support base within government to move legislation designed at addressing the chronic political instability that has hampered Vanuatu's parliament for years.
I think the push for political reform will be stronger now because we now have all the major parties in the government, which wasn't something that we had before. So I think with all the major parties in the government now, we will be pushing very strongly for political reform in terms of reforms that strengthen political parties, it'll be in our interest now.
